DPP takes first action after Citizen TV exposé of man who 'killed' nephew to benefit from life insurance

A heart-wrenching exposé aired on Citizen TV on Sunday night has drawn the attention of the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

The report, brought to light how a man identified as Evans Musyoki allegedly killed his own nephew – Eric Makau Musyoka - in a bid to benefit from a Sh9 million life insurance policy the latter had with two different companies.

According to the exposé dubbed Murder for Profit, Mr Musyoki, a former manager in one of the insurance firms, listed himself as a beneficiary of Eric’s life insurance policy.

Almost one year later Eric ended up dead and his body dumped near his home.

Though the uncle denied any involvement in the murder, last year the office of the DPP in Kangundo asked locals to help search for Musyoki after he was linked to the death. However, he was never apprehended.

 he postmortem indicated that Eric was hit by a blunt object.

After the burial, Musyoki allegedly tried to reclaim the money from the two insurance companies.  He purportedly did this without the knowledge or consent of Eric’s parents or siblings.

On Sunday after the report, DPP directed legal action be taken immediately.

DPP attention has been drawn to a news feature appearing on @citizentvkenya prime time news in regard to the Kangundo incident. Due to the nature of the case, the DPP has directed that immediate legal steps be taken to ensure justice is done. @DCI_Kenya,” the DPP’s tweet reads.

He went on to caution the public against obstructing criminal investigations.

“DPP further wishes to inform the public that obstruction of due process is serious criminal offence & any person who will be found culpable shall face the full force of the law. Cc @DCI_Kenya,” Mr Haji added.

Eric’s family is still utterly dumbfounded by the findings which indicate that their son could have been murdered for the Sh9 million on his insurance policy. The family is pleading for justice to prevail.
